Wisconsin winters, wet springs, and summer sun are hard on exposed wood. Accurate Painting LLC prepares and stains outdoor surfaces with attention to the wood, the existing coating, and the conditions at the property. We inspect the surface before defining the scope in your free estimate.
What We Stain
We stain decks, fences, pergolas, porches, railings, cedar and log siding, and exterior wood doors. Interior wood trim and doors also deserve a finish that suits the material and the room. A worn deck in Lake Country may need a different approach from a shaded fence in Mequon; the estimate identifies the surfaces, preparation, and any agreed repairs.
Our Process
1. Inspect the wood, fasteners, and existing finish for wear or damage.
2. Clean the surface, and strip failed coatings where the condition calls for it.
3. Allow adequate drying time, then sand rough areas and complete agreed board repairs.
4. Apply the selected stain or sealer according to product directions and suitable weather conditions.
5. Walk through the finished work with you and explain care for the new coating.
Choosing a Finish
Transparent stain shows the most wood grain but offers less color coverage. Semi-transparent stain adds color while leaving the grain visible. Solid stain gives a more opaque appearance. Existing coatings, the wood's condition, and the desired look guide the choice. We use premium Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore products selected for the surface and application. Wisconsin sun, moisture, and freeze-thaw cycles all affect exposed wood, so preparation and compatible products matter.
When to Stain—and When to Wait
Wood needs to be dry enough for the selected product, and the forecast must allow proper application and drying. Rain, temperature, humidity, shade, and moisture retained in the boards can change the schedule. We wait for suitable conditions rather than coat damp wood. Your estimate sets out the preparation and application scope after inspection; it does not promise a fixed lifespan for the finish.

There is no fixed schedule. Sun, moisture, foot traffic, and the existing finish affect wear. Fading, uneven color, and a surface that no longer sheds water are signs to have the wood inspected. We assess its condition before recommending the preparation and finish.
Sometimes, when the existing coating is sound and compatible with the selected finish. Peeling or failing stain needs more preparation, which may involve stripping and sanding. We inspect the coating and define that work in the estimate.
Drying and curing depend on the product, temperature, humidity, and shade. We give you the product-specific guidance after application so furniture and foot traffic do not disturb the finish.
We inspect boards and identify repairs or replacement that should be part of the staining scope. Agreed repairs are written into the estimate. If we uncover additional damage during preparation, we explain it before any added work.
